  • The real name of Buddha is SIDDHARTHA GAUTAM.
  • He was born on 563 B.C. in Lumbini,western part of Nepal.
  • The son of king Suddhodhan and queen Mayadevi.
  • Shakyamuni is the historical Buddha who achieved enlightenment 2500 years ago.
  • When he was young adult his experiences with the outside world drove him to seek out a greater
    understanding of life and spiritual fulfilment.
  • Through seeking guidance and meditation,Siddhartha achieved Enlightenment.From the point ,he was
    known as the Buddha,which means “Enlightened One”.For the rest of his life,the Buddha travelled
    great distances teaching people about one path of salvation.
  • After the Buddha’s death,his pupils continues to spread his teachings.
  • Buddhism offered hope and access to spiritual understanding and satisfaction to ordinary people.
  • GAUTAM BUDDHA is beleived to have had 550 incarnations.Many previous Buddhas & other Buddhas yet to come are known as Buddhas.
  • To distinguish from all other Buddhas, he has been called Shakyamuni (The lion of sakya clan),
    the son of king Suddhodhana & bodhi”or knowledge after 6 yrs in fasting & meditation & then he
    was called “Buddha”as he was “the enlightened one”.
